4 Ways to Take Care of Yourself When You Are Stressed

These past few weeks have been insanely stressful for me. Between trying to find an apartment on short notice (If you live in NYC you know what I’m talking about), actually moving, working and training I’ve been running a little ragged.

During stressful and busy times it's way to easy to let self care slide. If you don't take care of yourself, how can you take care of anything else?

  1. Take a minute (or Five) . I’ve been trying to be more consistent in my meditation practice. I’ve noticed that when I am, life just kinda has a better flow to it. I used to think I had to do it on a special cushion or at a certain time and if i didn’t do it that way why bother? Now I find a way to do it whenever or where ever I can. In my car when I’m waiting for street cleaning, in the afternoon, on the subway. I use Gabrielle Bernstein’s meditations or just listen to some music. Even a minute of deep breathing calms and centers me. It doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated, just do it!
  2. Take a bath. A few times a week I have been drawing myself a warm bath to unwind from the day. I use Epsom Salts which help my tired muscles and also restore my magnesium levels. It’s nice to just sit and chill. I’ve been reading Kimberly Snyder’s Radical Beauty in the tub. I also sleep better that night.
  3. Cook your own food. The more I cook for myself the better I feel (and eat). We spent about a week ordering out for dinner between moving and unpacking. I felt so sluggish and heavy. I feel so much more grounded and connected to my food if i prepare it, even if its just a quick dish of rice and beans. Plus ordering out every night is expensive! I swear by my crockpot. It’s small and you can just throw things in it and come home to an amazing meal.
  4. Move a little. Maybe it's HIIT or yoga. When I get stressed I crave yoga. It helps me to destress and create space. I’m a big fan of Tara Stile’s Youtube Channel
