Golden Milk (aka Turmeric Latte)
Lately I’ve been OBSESSED with making Golden Milk. This ayuvedic goodness has everything you need to wind down and chill out: It’s warming, comforting, and a nutritional powerhouse.
Waaaaaay better then a glass of wine for a nightcap.
First, lets talk about how good turmeric is for you. It’s basically natures’s Advil. It’s a super powerful anti-inflammatory and is packed with phytonutrients. If you follow my instagram (@lisalindeyeats) you know that I put this in all of my smoothies. It’s also high in manganese and iron.
Another cool thing about turmeric milk is that the ingredients work to enhance each other. The pepper in the recipe helps increase the absorption of curcumin that’s in turmeric.
1 cup non dairy milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon powdered turmeric OR 1/2 peeled nub of fresh turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cardamon
a drizzle of maple syrup to sweeten to taste
- Warm up the non dairy milk in a small sauce pan. You want it hot but not boiling.
- Add the ingredients to the non dairy milk and stir.
- Pour everything into your blender and blend for about a minute to thoroughly blend everything. I like to blend it until it’s nice and frothy.
- Pour into a mug and relax with it. You can easily double this recipe if you feel like sharing.
You can also keep the non dairy milk cold and make this an iced drink.
Let me know if you guys make this!
