The 5 Things You Should Be Putting In Your Smoothies

So I know lately there's a lot of powders and potions being thrown around in smoothies. Sometimes some recipes have like 6 different adaptogens in them. I mean, I'm guilty of doing the same thing, especially when I get a big box of stuff in the mail from Moon Juice or Sun Potion.

But, in all honesty, I have 5 powders that I use DAILY. These should be in everyone's pantry. Totally worth the investment.

These all are adaptogens. What's an adaptogen? Adaptogens are natural substances that work with a person’s body and help them adapt, usually to stress. Sounds good, right?

My Essential Powders

Maca - Maca is one of the first adaptogens I ever used.  Maca helps the body adapt to stress by countering the negative effects of tension and anxiety while tonifying and boosting the endocrine system. It helps deliver energy, mental stamina, hormonal balance, enhanced libido and a good mood. I put it in all my smoothies and any energy balls I make.

Ashwaganda - Ashwaganda reduces the effects of mental, emotional, and physical stress. It's also known to lower blood sugar levels, reduce cortisol, boost brain function and help fight symptoms of anxiety and depression. This a staple lately in my vegan bulletproof coffee. I love it. I feel like it starts my day on the right foot.

Reishi - I use reishi a lot. It is a powerful adaptogen which means it helps the body adapt to stress like anxiety, fatigue, emotional stress and trauma. You have to take reishi everyday for a few weeks to allow it to take its full effect. It also helps reduce inflammation. I love reishi in hot chocolate. It really just chills me out.

Cordyceps - Use this if you workout! Cordyceps have been proven to enhance exercise and athletic performance, as well as resistance to fatigue. They boost the immune system and increase cellular oxygen absorption and lung capacity. They are said to increase oxygen uptake, boost heart health, detoxify the body, slow the aging process, increases energy, and improves the immune system. Um, yes to all of that. 

Tocotrienols - (aka Tocos) Oooh do I love me some Tocos! Tocotrienols is rice bran that tastes like vanilla. It's packed with vitamin E, D, and antioxidants. It has tissue regenerating, inflammation taming, immunity, muscle boosting and toxin removing powers. I put it daily in my vegan bulletproof coffee and in my smoothies. Since I've started using it I've noticed my skin looking a little extra glow-y.
